Pinworms (equine intestinal threadworm) are a common parasite of adult horses. The pinworm infection is most commonly found in adult horses. However, baby horses that have not been dewormed frequently (twice a year) can also sometimes have pinworms.
Pinworms are easy to identify if you know what to look for. But sometimes they cause symptoms in adult horses without showing any external signs of an infestation. Knowing what to look for helps just as much as seeing the worms.
Pinworms are worms that live inside the body of the horse and are transmitted by contact with an infected horse’s feces or environment.
Worming the herd selectively with either wide spectrum dewormer or a dewormer specific for pinworms is the most effective way to control pinworms in horses.
